Since the start of the 2026 F1 season, Lewis Hamilton seems to have found a second wind. After a solid start to the championship marked by a first podium secured in China, the Briton shows a much more positive mindset, supported by a car that better suits his driving style.

The new generations of cars, less dependent on the extreme constraints of ground effect cars, allow him to express himself more naturally on track. A key element that could make the difference in the upcoming races.

Miami, the scene of a possible breakthrough

The Miami Grand Prix promises to be a pivotal moment for Ferrari. The Italian team plans to introduce a significant upgrade package there, with the clear ambition to get closer to, or even rival, Mercedes at the top of the championship.

In this context, Martin Brundle is particularly optimistic about Hamilton’s chances. According to him, if Ferrari manages to reach the level of the best, the seven-time world champion will immediately seize his chance.

“Lewis clearly enjoys these cars much more. Ferrari is more competitive, and I think it will make a big step forward in Miami” says Brundle.

“He obviously prefers this type of car to the very tough ground effect ones, which seemed less suited to his style. His mindset, his way of approaching things, all indicate that he is much happier because Ferrari is more competitive. And if he wants to be world champion, he will have to beat Charles Leclerc.”

“Let’s see if he can maintain this momentum, but if there is the slightest opportunity for victory, I think Lewis is always capable of going for it.”

The Leclerc challenge in the background

While Hamilton is regaining form, he also has to deal with Charles Leclerc, firmly established within the Scuderia. The Monegasque remains an internal benchmark and constitutes the first obstacle on the path to a potential title for the Briton.

The hierarchy between the two drivers could quickly become a major issue if Ferrari confirms its progress. An internal battle that will recall some of the great rivalries in the history of the Italian team.

In Miami, all conditions therefore seem to be met to witness a turning point in Ferrari’s season. Between technical upgrades, renewed confidence, and a favorable context, Hamilton could well find himself in a position to fight for victory for the first time since joining the Scuderia. And as Brundle points out, he must not be given the chance twice.
