Announced in Australia during the calendar break, Liam Lawson quickly responded. The Racing Bulls driver assures he never planned such a program.

Formula 1 is currently going through an extended break, a direct consequence of the cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grands Prix due to the conflict in Iran. Result: five weeks without racing between Japan and Miami, a rare situation that pushes some drivers to seek track time elsewhere.
Several names from the paddock have thus taken advantage of this pause to stay active. Max Verstappen and Lance Stroll have stood out in GT3, while others have participated in tests, notably with Pirelli or during filming days.
In this somewhat unusual context, a rather surprising rumor emerged in Australia and New Zealand: Liam Lawson was about to make his debut in Supercars.
An immediate and amused reaction
Questioned about this information, Lawson did not hide his surprise. Upon his arrival in New Zealand, the driver discovered an avalanche of messages claiming he was going to race… without even being informed himself.
“I arrived in New Zealand and my phone was blowing up with messages saying: ‘Liam, you’re racing in Supercars next week'”, he recounts with amusement.
“I thought: ‘I didn’t even know I was racing next week’, so I don’t know how everyone seemed to be aware.”
A clear clarification that wipes out any credibility to this rumor, apparently amplified on social media without real basis.

A real interest… but not just yet
Although this hypothesis proved completely unfounded, Lawson does not close the door to a future experience in Supercars. On the contrary, the New Zealander acknowledges a certain attraction to this discipline which he has followed for a long time.
“It’s a very nice idea. It’s a series I watched growing up, and I would really like to try it one day” he confides. A statement that shows that, despite the denial, the interest is very real.
However, the driver remains realistic about his current priorities. Fully committed to Formula 1, he knows that getting involved in another category would require time and specific preparation.
Lawson emphasizes an essential point: his goal remains entirely focused on F1: “When my life is less focused on one thing, maybe I can really take the time to prepare for it” he explains.
In other words, a move to Supercars is not on the agenda. Between the physical, technical, and media demands of Formula 1, it is difficult to consider a serious parallel program in the short term.
Rumors, the paddock’s new playground
This episode illustrates an increasingly frequent trend: the rapid spread of rumors in the paddock, amplified by social media and quiet periods in the calendar.
In a context where drivers remain in the spotlight, the slightest speculation can quickly gain momentum, even without solid foundation. Lawson experienced this directly… with a race announcement he was the first to ignore.
