The 2023 FIA Formula 2 champion is now making Formula E his priority for the future, with a clear objective: to secure a full-time seat with the arrival of the new generation of Gen4 single-seaters.

Long considered one of the greatest French hopes for reaching Formula 1, Pourchaire has not seen the opportunities materialize as hoped.

On all fronts

Since then, he has broadened his horizons, notably with an experience in the IndyCar Series at McLaren in 2024, which remains his last single-seater competition entry, and a role as an F1 development pilot for Mercedes, essentially focused on simulator work at Brackley.

In recent months, he has gradually moved closer to Formula E, becoming actively involved with the manufacturers of the Stellantis group. He has participated in several rookie tests with Maserati MSG Racing and Citroën Racing, while contributing to the development of the future Gen4, whose first runs are continuing this year.

The announced arrival of an official Opel Formula E Team, also linked to Stellantis, opens up new perspectives on the grid. An opportunity that the Frenchman is following very closely: “The fact that there is an extra team opens up more opportunities,” he explains, while clearly stating his desire to return to a single-seater world championship.

Gen4: Leveling up

Seduced by the technical project of the Gen4, for which he handled part of the development, Pourchaire believes that the discipline will reach a major milestone, both in terms of performance and visibility: “The level will be at the highest, and we will get closer to championships like Formula 1,” he asserts, convinced of the potential of this new era.

His performance in testing reinforces his credibility. Already fast at the wheel of the Gen3 Evo, he participated in several important sessions, notably in Miami and at Madrid, where his role went beyond that of a simple rookie. Tasked with preparing the teams for upcoming races, he demonstrated his ability to integrate into a demanding development program, proof of the trust placed in him.

In parallel, Pourchaire has two solid contracts for 2026, committed to the World Endurance Championship with Peugeot Sport and involved as a development driver for Mercedes in F1. But despite this stability, his priority remains unchanged: to find a full-time single-seater seat.

WEC to race, FE to succeed

“I am happy in WEC, especially as a French driver with Peugeot, but single-seaters are really what I do best,” he insists. Building on his experience in Formula 3, in Formula 2, as an F1 reserve, but also his stints in IndyCar and in Super Formula, he feels ready to take on this new challenge.

Confident in his ability to adapt, Pourchaire stands ready to seize the slightest opportunity: “Formula E is very special and different, but if I get my chance, I will take it.” An intact determination that could well relaunch his trajectory at the highest level of single-seaters.
