Kyle Larson, the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion, has revisited his previous claim that he could be a better driver than Max Verstappen, a purely relative comparison.
The American driver, a multiple NASCAR champion, has also taken part in the prestigious Indianapolis 500 in recent years with McLaren (photo above).
An eclecticism that gives the star a certain credit, to the point of having expressed some time ago his opinion on the quality of drivers on both sides of the Atlantic.
Lack of respect
Speaking to the media, Larson shared his opinion on the lack of respect given to American racing compared to European motorsports: “I hope we get to the point where NASCAR and American motorsport receive the respect they deserve, because there are so many different and varied races in the United States, compared to Europe, that in my opinion, we should develop a driver who is as good, or even potentially better than in any other part of the world.”
Larson acknowledged the difficulty of determining who is the best driver, emphasizing that the debate is fun: “To answer the second part, I don’t know how we could ever know who is the best. I don’t know if it’s necessary, I think the debate is nice, it’s always pleasant to have exchanges between, you know, American fans, European fans, or single-seater fans, whatever. “

Max would be welcome
He expressed his interest in seeing Formula 1 drivers, including Max Verstappen, try NASCAR to gain a different perspective on American-style racing: “I would love to see anyone come and try the Cup Series just to honestly give their opinion on what they think of our way of racing and what it’s like. I imagine it would be very different from what they are used to.”
Larson praised the skills of Verstappen and acknowledged the high esteem in which he is held by many in the motorsport world: “He is extremely good. He receives praise from so many people that you have to accept that yes, he is probably the best given everything that is said about him: competitors, team managers, all that. So yes, what he does is incredible. “
“And I think what really shows how good he is, is that his teammate isn’t even on the same level as him, while all the other teams are only a few positions apart” he concluded.
