The 1992 world champion Nigel Mansell hopes to see Lewis Hamilton win an eighth title with Ferrari. A scenario he himself describes as “romantic” in a season that could mark the end of an era.

Despite fierce competition, especially against the new generation, Mansell does not hide his wish to see Hamilton make even more history.

“I’m going to be romantic: I would like Lewis to do it, he confides. Lando still has many years ahead of him, he can achieve it later. But come on, Lewis! It would be special. You have already accomplished so much… you have to finish the job.”

A challenge taken up but open

After a difficult 2025 season, Hamilton seems to have regained form in 2026. Ferrari has closed the gap to the best, even if Mercedes still holds a slight lead at the start of the year.

In this context, the fight for the title promises to be particularly open, with several drivers capable of competing for victory at every race.

Mansell also sees Hamilton shining at home, on the Silverstone circuit, where he could go for a tenth historic win.

“I would say yes, definitely. Lewis is motivated again. Ferrari did an excellent job this winter, they are in the match. And with some regulatory adjustments by then, I think it will be very close. We can hope for an epic race.”

At 41, Hamilton may be playing one of his last cards for a world title. And for Mansell, the ideal scenario is clear.
