The Japanese weekend did not smile upon driver Max Verstappen. Hoping to repeat his 2025 success at Suzuka, he could do no better than eighth place and was never in a position to fight for the victory.
Shortly after the race, Verstappen had hinted that he was reflecting on his future in F1, with some media even mentioning a possible retirement at the end of the 2026 F1 season. The new technical rules, which he openly criticizes, contribute to his dissatisfaction, but his passion for racing remains intact.
Return to the legendary track
To keep this flame alive, Verstappen chose to go to Germany to drive a Mercedes-AMG GT3 on the Nordschleife. An observer captured images of the Dutch driver in the freezing Eifel region, testing his car in demanding conditions.

It was reportedly not one but two Mercedes in Red Bull colors that were spotted on the track. The identity of the driver of the second vehicle is not confirmed, but it could be one of his teammates, such as Marcel Juncadella, Raffaele Gounon, or Lucas Auer.
Maintaining the desire despite the frustration
This return to the Nordschleife demonstrates that, even in the face of frustration in F1, Verstappen seeks to remain active and motivated in motorsport. GT3 cars allow him to keep the pace and continue to enjoy himself behind the wheel, far from the constraints of the new Formula 1 regulations.
In a context where his future in F1 remains uncertain, this type of outing could well offer him a boost in motivation and confidence before deciding on the next steps of his career.
