Max Verstappen talks about a return to the Nürburgring 24h and considers a logical adjustment to the F1 calendar

Max Verstappen did not hide his desire to quickly return to the Nordschleife for the Nürburgring 24 Hours, believing that an adjustment of the Formula 1 calendar could facilitate his participation. A position that reignites the debate on the coexistence between F1 and endurance for active drivers.

For his big debut in the legendary German endurance race, the Dutchman lined up alongside Jules Gounon, Lucas Auer, and Dani Juncadella. The crew seemed well on track to compete for the victory before a transmission failure ruined their hopes, relegating them far down the final standings.

This setback inevitably leaves a feeling of unfinished business for the four-time world champion, who believes he lost a great opportunity to win on his first participation. Nevertheless, he considers this experience as a solid foundation for a future return.

A clear desire to return in 2027

The Nürburgring has already confirmed that the 2027 edition will take place at the end of May, a slot that, as it stands, does not seem to conflict with the upcoming F1 calendar. This therefore opens the door to a new participation by the Red Bull driver, subject to sporting and logistical approval.

When asked about a possible return, Verstappen was enthusiastic, stating that the initial goal had always been to win. According to him, circumstances simply prevented an ideal conclusion for this first appearance.

The Dutchman does not demand decision-making power but believes that better alignment between disciplines would be “logical.” For him, it is not about imposing his choices but rather allowing drivers to diversify their commitments without major conflict.

A cautious but assumed openness

Verstappen acknowledges, however, that nothing is set in stone yet and that many parameters remain unknown regarding future calendars. He insists that the situation will depend primarily on the decisions of the F1 authorities.

Without going as far as claiming direct influence, the Red Bull driver simply believes that better organization would be beneficial for everyone. His recent experience at the Nürburgring seems to have strengthened his appetite for endurance, without calling into question his commitment to F1.

One thing is certain: if the calendars align, Verstappen will not hesitate to try his luck again on the Nordschleife.
