Questions about the future of Max Verstappen continue to stir the paddock, but the main interested party clearly has no intention of participating. Present at Spa-Francorchamps before the Belgian Grand Prix, the Red Bull driver once again dismissed questions about his future.
Under contract with the Austrian team until the end of the 2028 season, Verstappen has nevertheless been at the center of many rumors for several weeks. His difficulties with the RB22, combined with Red Bull’s inconsistent performances in 2026, have fueled the hypothesis of an early departure.
When asked about a possible change in the situation, the Dutchman was categorical.
“Is there an update you can give us?”
“No.”
The McLaren case continues to fuel speculation
The possibility of seeing Verstappen leave Red Bull before the end of his contract has grown in recent weeks. A release clause in his contract could allow him to leave as early as 2027 if his position in the championship is not sufficient before the summer break.
Currently struggling in the standings, the four-time world champion would not be able to meet this sporting condition, which has strengthened rumors of a possible transfer.
McLaren has notably been regularly mentioned as a potential destination for Verstappen. Advanced discussions between the two parties have even been mentioned in the paddock, although these reports now seem less insistent.
But faced with journalists, Verstappen refused to give the slightest hint.
“What do you think of the speculation?”
“Nothing.”
“Do you have a date in mind?”
“No, there is nothing to say on my side.”
“If there is something new, I will say it myself”
While some hoped to get confirmation of his full commitment to Red Bull, Verstappen once again avoided answering directly.

When asked if he intended to stay with the team next year, his answer remained the same:
“I don’t want to come here and say yes or no, this or that about my future. I have already said several times that if there was something new, I would say it myself.”
This very controlled communication contrasts with the many speculations surrounding his future since the start of the season.
Red Bull under pressure before Spa
The situation comes as Red Bull must manage a delicate period. After several disappointing performances, the team must also resolve issues related to its controversial rear wing, responsible for two incidents that greatly annoyed Verstappen in Austria and then at Silverstone.
For his part, Laurent Mekies assures that Red Bull is working tirelessly to regain the level necessary to convince its star driver to continue the adventure.
For now, Verstappen maintains the mystery. One thing seems clear, however: if he has an important decision to announce about his future, he wants to be the first to speak.
