A victim of a problem at the start of the Hungarian Grand Prix, George Russell once again saw his title hopes slip away. The Mercedes driver is nevertheless trying to remain optimistic.

George Russell experienced another frustrating Sunday in Hungary. Qualified in sixth position, the Mercedes driver saw all his chances of a good result vanish from the very first meters.
At the start, his car went into anti-stall mode, immediately relegating him to the back of the pack.
Forced into a long comeback, the Briton finally managed to salvage a seventh place, insufficient however to limit the damage against his teammate Kimi Antonelli, who finished third.
Russell commented on this incident after the race.
“I was on the throttle waiting for the start and, all of a sudden, the engine started doing whatever it wanted. The revs went very high, then dropped sharply.”
“Add it to the list”
The Mercedes driver acknowledges that this new incident is part of a particularly complicated first half of the season.
Already a victim of several setbacks in recent months, including a retirement on the first lap at Spa-Francorchamps, Russell once again sees bad luck plague his race.
“Just add that to the list of everything that has happened to us during this first half of the season… I just hope things calm down after the summer break.”
This new setback also costs him valuable championship points.
A widening gap in the championship
With this seventh place, Russell is now 59 points behind Kimi Antonelli, the solid leader of the world championship before the summer break.

Despite this situation, the Briton refuses to give up.
“I remain positive. I’ve already gone through so many disappointments during this first half of the season.”
According to him, it is now useless to dwell on the many twists of fate that have disrupted his campaign.
Russell refuses to give up
The Mercedes driver believes that he must now focus on the elements he can truly control.
While he admits he still has areas to improve, he refuses to be discouraged by the circumstances.
“At some point, you have to pick yourself up and accept that many things are beyond your control and can go against you.”
Russell concludes by showing his determination for the second part of the season.
“There are also things I can do better and I will continue to work on them. Of course, I’m not happy with how things have gone so far, but I’m going to stay positive and keep fighting.”
After a first half of the championship marked by disappointments, Russell hopes that the summer break will allow Mercedes to start on a better footing and relaunch its season.
