Flavio Briatore reacted to speculations sending Fernando Alonso to Alpine in 2027, while leaving the door slightly open for the future.

Flavio Briatore wanted to put an end, at least temporarily, to the rumors about a return of Fernando Alonso to Alpine starting from the 2027 season.
As the two-time world champion approaches the end of his contract with Aston Martin at the end of 2026 and considers the next steps in his career, several speculations were sending him back to the Enstone team, where he has already had three stints.
When asked about this possibility, Briatore was cautious.
“Fernando drives for Aston Martin. The team seems to have taken a step forward thanks to the upgrades brought in Hungary, and he is quite happy at Aston Martin.”
Alonso has not decided yet
At 45, Fernando Alonso now has to choose between continuing his career or ending more than two decades spent in Formula 1.
According to several reports, the Spaniard especially wants to be able to drive a car entirely designed by Adrian Newey, who joined Aston Martin in 2025 as associate technical director.
At the same time, personal considerations would also come into play, with Alonso wanting to spend more time with his family after the birth of his first child last March.
For now, Briatore assures that no discussions are underway regarding a possible return to Alpine.

A historic link with Alpine
The idea of Alonso returning to Alpine is, however, not born by chance.
The Spaniard won his two world titles with Renault in 2005 and 2006, before returning for the first time in 2008, then a third time in 2021 when the team was racing under the name Alpine.
Flavio Briatore himself played a major role in this story, as he is the man who launched Alonso in Formula 1 and remains his manager to this day.
Meanwhile, Alpine is gradually regaining form this season, notably with a podium by Pierre Gasly in Monaco.
The door is not completely closed
While Briatore insists that Alonso is fully committed to Aston Martin, he carefully avoided definitively closing the door to a future reunion.
His statement is limited to recalling the current contractual situation of the Spanish driver.
“Fernando is an Aston Martin driver and, until the end of the season, he will remain an Aston Martin driver.”
A phrase that maintains suspense without confirming the rumors. Alonso’s future will depend as much on his desire to continue in Formula 1 as on Aston Martin’s competitiveness after the expected upgrades and the project the British team can offer him for 2027.
