Esteban Ocon’s future at Haas appears increasingly uncertain: at the end of his contract after the 2026 season and struggling against Oliver Bearman, he may have to look for a new landing spot.
Aston Martin is precisely monitoring his situation and could represent one of his best opportunities for 2027.
The Frenchman raced for a long time for the “Silverstone Team” in its Force India/Racing Point version and has always maintained friendly relations with Lance Stroll, the boss’s son.
Alonso’s future could unlock everything
The current season is not going as hoped for Ocon. Bearman shows more consistency and Haas is already evaluating several candidates likely to join the team next season. Under these conditions, a separation between the Frenchman and the American team now seems to be a serious scenario.
The problem for Ocon is that possibilities are starting to narrow on the transfer market. However, an opening could appear on Aston Martin’s side. The situation would depend primarily on Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard’s contract also expires at the end of 2026 and his future remains uncertain.

Alonso would notably condition a possible extension on the progress made by Aston Martin. Lawrence Stroll would like to keep his driver and would be ready to make a significant financial effort. If Alonso finally decides to leave Silverstone, Ocon would be among the drivers considered to replace him. There is even a strong possibility of seeing the Frenchman join Aston Martin in 2027 even if a seat does not become available, in a luxury reserve role.
Reserve driver ?
Even an extension of Alonso would not completely close the door to Ocon. Aston Martin could offer him a reserve driver role for the 2027 season, with the goal of placing him in a main seat in 2028 if an opportunity arises or if the Spanish champion were to leave mid-season, knowing that he appreciates Ocon after having had him as a teammate at Alpine.
Such a decision would nevertheless represent a significant gamble for Ocon. After several seasons as a main driver in Formula 1, accepting to spend a year on the sidelines would inevitably carry the risk of complicating his return to the grid. He had already taken this step aside in 2019 after giving up his seat to his friend Stroll and before joining Renault F1.
Because the Aston Martin project also has arguments: with Adrian Newey leading the technical development, significantly strengthened infrastructure, and the hope of seeing Honda make a significant leap forward, Silverstone could become an interesting destination in the medium term.
