Alpine continues to strengthen its project for the future. The French team is about to officialize the arrival of a very experienced profile coming directly from the FIA.
After an extremely complicated 2025 season, Alpine seems determined to change dimension behind the scenes. The team based in Enstone is indeed preparing to welcome Jason Somerville, a highly respected engineer in the Formula 1 paddock.
According to RacingNews365, the British will join the French structure after leaving the FIA, where he had held the position of head of aerodynamics for four years.
An important arrival for Alpine, which is actively pursuing its technical restructuring to best prepare for the major regulatory change planned for 2026.
A very experienced profile in F1
Jason Somerville has solid experience in the world of Formula 1. Before his time at the FIA, he had already worked several years directly with Formula One Management, always in the field of aerodynamics.
And his career in teams is also particularly extensive. Before joining the championship’s governing bodies, he held the position of head of aerodynamics at Williams for nearly six years.
He had previously worked at Toyota and Lotus, accumulating recognized expertise in the development of single-seaters.
This very varied experience explains why his arrival at Alpine is considered a strategic recruit at a crucial moment for the French team.
A departure confirmed by Somerville himself
Jason Somerville’s departure from the FIA was confirmed directly by himself on LinkedIn.

“Last day at the FIA today,” he wrote in a message published on May 14. A huge thank you to my colleagues at the FIA, to our technical partners as well as to the representatives of FOM and the F1 teams who made these last four years so exciting, enjoyable and stimulating.”
Before adding a sentence that immediately caught the paddock’s attention: “The next chapter begins tomorrow…”
A few hours later, several sources confirmed that Alpine would indeed be his next destination. Somerville is expected to join the team’s technical management in a major role. The official announcement of his arrival could happen very soon, potentially even in the coming days.
This recruitment comes at a pivotal time for Alpine, which already seems to be reaping the first benefits of its strategy focused on 2026.
Alpine already making significant progress
After a failed 2025 campaign, the French team chose to focus its resources very early on the 2026 car and the new technical regulations.
A bet that seems to be paying off. After only four rounds this season, Alpine has already surpassed its total points scored throughout the previous year.
This gradual rise in the hierarchy reinforces the idea that Alpine is preparing an ambitious rise for the coming years.
With the probable arrival of Jason Somerville, the French team thus continues to add high-level profiles to its project, in the hope of becoming a major player in Formula 1 again in the medium term.
