Max Verstappen praised Red Bull’s support, which allows him to lead several projects alongside Formula 1, while also reflecting on his relationship with Laurent Mekies.

While Formula 1 holds a central place in his career, Max Verstappen is not limited to Grand Prix racing. The four-time world champion also uses his free time to participate in other sporting projects, a freedom he largely attributes to the support of Red Bull.
The Dutchman, linked to the Austrian brand for over ten years, has notably increased his appearances on the Nordschleife in recent seasons. Earlier this year, he even took part in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring, an experience that demonstrates his passion for motorsport in all its forms.
“Red Bull has always supported me”
Contrary to what some might think, Verstappen believes these outside activities do not harm his commitment to Formula 1. On the contrary, they allow him to maintain balance and return even more motivated in his role as a Red Bull driver.
“I don’t put too much pressure on myself. I work with a lot of good people here and I have a very stable environment at home.”
The 28-year-old driver also emphasizes the importance of disconnecting from F1 when he has the chance.
“It’s important to be able to switch off from Formula 1, enjoy my family life, and pursue other projects that I am passionate about outside of F1. Red Bull has always supported me enormously in this approach.”

An excellent relationship with Laurent Mekies
The Milton Keynes team has undergone several significant changes within its organization in recent years. One of the most notable remains the arrival of Laurent Mekies at the head of the team, following Christian Horner’s departure in July 2025.
Verstappen explains, however, that this transition happened naturally, as the two men already knew each other before this appointment.
“The relationship with Laurent has been very good from the start. I already knew him beforehand, so there was no difficulty when we started working together.”
The four-time world champion particularly appreciates the involvement of his new team principal and the many exchanges they have.
“We talk a lot, we have many meetings, and I really appreciate everything he does to improve the team’s structure. He fights hard and pushes everyone to progress. I really enjoy working with him.”
While Red Bull is going through a more challenging season than usual, Verstappen thus shows his confidence in the organization set up around him. Between the stability of his personal environment, the possibility to pursue other sporting projects, and his collaboration with Laurent Mekies, the Dutchman believes he has the best conditions to remain fully focused on his goals in Formula 1.
