The cancellation of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix has offered Formula 1 teams a valuable opportunity to focus on their development programs, both on and off the track.
Ferrari is among the most active, using this break to carry out Pirelli tests with the SF-26 at Fiorano, with the aim of developing wet tires (photo above) with Lewis Hamilton yesterday and Charles Leclerc today.
These tests, although primarily intended for tire development, offer teams indirect benefits by allowing them to collect data and improve their understanding of the car’s behavior on wet surfaces.
Ongoing developments
This knowledge could prove crucial during rainy race weekends, helping to optimize setup and strategy. Ferrari’s efforts are part of a broader preparation plan for the Miami Grand Prix, with significant updates expected to improve aerodynamic efficiency.
Ferrari’s development work is not limited to Fiorano. The team has already completed a private session at Mugello with the SF-25, involving reserve drivers Antonio Giovinazzi, Arthur Leclerc, and Antonio Fuoco. The upcoming 200 km filming day at Monza on April 20 will allow for further testing of the new developments.
Ramping up
The goal is to reduce drag and improve speed, with the famous ‘Macarena’ inverted wing playing a key role. Ferrari’s technical department is working intensively to address areas needing improvement, such as efficiency and weight reduction.

Ferrari is focusing on improving its internal combustion engine (ICE) to gain power. Engineers recognize the need for progress and are planning updates within the budget cap.
Test bench improvements are being considered alongside aerodynamic developments, reflecting a long-term strategic approach. However, a new engine is not expected to be introduced before July.
Managing the schedule
The development of the new engine is a carefully scheduled process, highlighting the importance of strategic planning and resource allocation in the competitive world of Formula 1.
While Ferrari works on these improvements, the team aims to close the gap with its competitors, ensuring that any progress complies with the sport’s regulations and financial limits.
