After Miami, Ferrari left Florida with mixed feelings despite the introduction of a significant aerodynamic upgrade package.

The Scuderia notably brought eleven new elements, including its much-discussed rear wing nicknamed “Macarena.”

According to technical analyst Paolo Filisetti, the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit will represent the first real test to measure the actual effectiveness of this new development direction.

“Ferrari introduced a complete aerodynamic package composed of eleven distinct elements in Miami” he explains.

The engine still under scrutiny

For Filisetti, Miami did not provide a clear picture of Ferrari’s progress due to the characteristics of the American track.

“Objective data once again highlighted the limits of the current version of the Maranello engine.”

In the paddock, many still consider that the SF-26 now has excellent aerodynamic and chassis potential.

“There is a widely shared opinion that the SF-26 is an extremely competitive car in terms of chassis and aerodynamics, but currently penalized by an engine that is not at the level of the best.”

Ferrari may have found energy solutions

One of the big topics at the start of this season concerns the energy management of the new power units. Ferrari is said to have worked extensively on new management modes after the regulatory adjustments introduced in Miami.

“According to some rumors, simulations have yielded very positive results.”

These improvements could allow Ferrari to better compete with Mercedes, the current reference in this field. But despite these encouraging signs, Vitantonio Liuzzi remains very cautious about Ferrari’s title chances this season.

“I hope so, but unfortunately I am not very optimistic. We have become used to seeing Ferrari develop its car a little more slowly than its competitors during the season.”

He adds: “Ferrari is always close, but unfortunately that is not enough to win the title. I hope to be wrong and see Ferrari fight in the second half of the championship.”

Mercedes already preparing the counterattack

Meanwhile, Toto Wolff has confirmed that Mercedes will finally introduce its first major upgrade package in Canada.

“Our competitors took a step forward in Miami and we have to respond.”

The Mercedes boss sees the upcoming series of races as an important opportunity to regain the upper hand: “Seven Grands Prix in ten weekends before the break represent an ideal chance to build momentum.”
