The impressive pace of Ferrari’s developments raises questions among its rivals, but Charles Leclerc shows complete calm.

Ferrari has adopted a particularly aggressive development strategy since the start of the 2026 season. After eleven Grands Prix, the Scuderia has introduced new parts on its SF-26 at almost every race weekend.
An approach that contrasts with those of Mercedes, McLaren, or Red Bull. These three teams have favored a few major sets of developments, occasionally supplemented by more modest modifications.
At Maranello, the philosophy is rather to regularly accumulate small gains. A strategy that is beginning to raise questions among the competition, particularly regarding Ferrari’s ability to comply with the budget cap until the end of the season.
Ferrari prefers to accumulate small gains
Fred Vasseur fully embraces this policy. For the Ferrari director, quickly bringing improvements allows benefiting from them over more Grands Prix and thus maximizing their impact on the season.
“It is better to have a few tenths for five races than a few tenths only during the last two,” explains the Frenchman.
Lewis Hamilton also supports this strategy. The Briton points out, however, that the regular arrival of new parts does not mean Ferrari systematically introduces major developments.
“We bring developments weekend after weekend, emphasizes the seven-time world champion. We hope to have even more during the second half of the season and we simply keep pushing.”
This strategy has allowed Ferrari to gradually reduce the gap with Mercedes, which had largely dominated the first races of the new regulatory era.
Toto Wolff questions Ferrari’s budget
The pace set by Ferrari notably caught Toto Wolff’s attention. The Mercedes boss publicly wondered how the Scuderia could still have sufficient financial margin under the budget cap.

“We are a bit surprised to see Ferrari bring such significant developments to its car in this way, admits Wolff. The only ones who are not slowing down are Ferrari.”
The Austrian even believes the situation could become tricky for his rival as the season progresses.
“In my opinion, they should soon run out of money under the budget cap, because we cannot do this. We simply do not have enough margin to bring so many parts in this way.”
Mercedes has chosen a different strategy, keeping more resources to continue developing its car during the second half of the championship.
Leclerc places all his trust in Vasseur
Charles Leclerc, however, does not share Wolff’s concerns at all. Asked about Ferrari’s financial situation and the questions surrounding its development program, the Monegasque assures he fully trusts Fred Vasseur.
“On this subject, I trust Fred more than anyone else, says Leclerc. Of course, the whole team works tremendously hard to speed up production and push the creative minds of the team to get developments as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
The Ferrari driver therefore feels no worry about his team’s ability to manage its expenses until the end of the year.
“I am sure Fred has the situation under control. Am I worried? No, because I totally trust Fred and I know he knows what he is doing.”
While Ferrari intends to continue its offensive to catch up with Mercedes during the second half of the season, Leclerc thus leaves financial management to Vasseur and prefers to focus on exploiting the developments that the Scuderia will continue to bring to the SF-26.
