The future of Carlos Sainz continues to fuel speculation in the paddock. Arriving at Williams with the ambition to contribute to the team’s return to the front, the Spaniard is experiencing a much more complicated 2026 F1 season than expected. Faced with the difficulties encountered by the British team, the 31-year-old driver has confirmed that he plans to take advantage of the summer break to assess his future.
Although he still sets no precise deadline, Sainz assures that the coming weeks will be decisive.
A season far from expectations at Williams
After leaving Ferrari at the end of the 2025 season, Carlos Sainz chose to join Williams, attracted by the project led by James Vowles. The stated goal was clear: to take advantage of the technical regulation change in 2026 to allow the Grove team to make a step forward.

“I will talk with them, with James and the whole team, about Williams’ future and my place in this project.”

While the reflection will indeed start during the summer break, Carlos Sainz acknowledges that he is still unable to say when a final decision will be made.
“I think that during the summer we will start to make a decision and have a clearer view of the situation. But as for the exact moment when everything will be settled, I don’t know.”
