The Briton thus
established himself as the first driver behind the leading teams, an
encouraging result to start this new technical era of

Formula 1
.

Best of the rest

“It was a good race.
The first lap wasn’t ideal, but then we found
an excellent pace and made a few overtakes. I am therefore
very happy, because we put in a great performance
today. It’s a special feeling to start this
new season with these new regulations,”

explained Bearman.

The Haas driver especially savors
the fact of having led the pack behind the top teams:
“It’s an excellent result for the team to be the best
of the rest. We benefited from a few retirements from
our competitors ahead of us, but regardless we
scored points, and we’re going to take them all. I’m proud of
this team, finishing the race in seventh place shows and validates
all their hard work.”

Lack of performance for Ocon

On the other side of the garage,

Esteban Ocon displayed a more mixed analysis. The
Frenchman regretted an insufficient pace and setup
difficulties that complicated his race: “Unfortunately it
wasn’t in the right train, and we lost a lot of time
battling throughout the race. From the start we had a major lack
of performance, exactly the same thing as last year, that’s
what’s very frustrating.”

Ocon also mentioned
differences in behavior between the team’s two cars:
“Many problems with the car’s stability,
many setup differences between the two cars, it’s
tiring. But we’re not far from the points, the car can be
more performant than what we’re doing, and we must overcome
these problems and have the same two cars.”

Despite everything, he is pleased that
the team was able to leave Melbourne with points: “This
race was, because we should have scored points after our
excellent start which allowed us to gain places. It’s
frustrating, but we learned a lot this weekend. I am
happy for the team that we scored points here in
Melbourne.”

Tough duel with Gasly

Regarding his contact with

Pierre Gasly, Ocon assured that the incident had not
had any major consequence on his car: “Not much,
the team hadn’t seen anything. Overtaking was difficult because
we just kept re-passing each other and battling, and we lost far
too much energy in those battles.”

Despite contrasting feelings between his
two drivers, Haas thus leaves Melbourne with a solid first result
and valuable lessons for the rest of the
season.
