Second in the Canadian Grand Prix behind Kimi Antonelli, Lewis Hamilton finally found his smile again after several difficult months at Ferrari. On the Gilles-Villeneuve circuit, the Briton showed a solid pace throughout the weekend and clearly dominated his teammate Charles Leclerc.
The seven-time world champion also believes that this is his most accomplished performance since arriving in Maranello.
“I had a lot of fun throughout the weekend, every lap. I felt that we started off on the right foot, with the right attitude, and the car was overall very competitive” Hamilton explained after the race.
The Ferrari driver also appreciated the Sprint format organized this year in Montreal.
“Coming here, to a circuit I love, and experiencing a Sprint weekend in Montreal for the first time, it was really great” he added.
An adaptation more difficult than expected
Since joining Ferrari in 2025, Hamilton has gone through a particularly complex adaptation period. His difficulties have been widely discussed in the paddock, to the point that Ferrari even changed the organization around him by replacing his race engineer Riccardo Adami with Carlo Santi, former engineer of Kimi Räikkönen.
Despite these changes, Hamilton says he had to do a huge amount of work behind the scenes to finally find the right balance.
“This is my first second place with the team. I worked so hard to achieve it that I can’t even explain how deeply I had to dig within myself” the Briton confided.

“Moving mountains” to perform
Hamilton also revealed the considerable efforts made internally to create a more favorable environment for his performances.
“The work done behind the scenes and having to move mountains to make this kind of performance possible has been huge” he declared.
The Ferrari driver publicly thanked his team for the support received despite the sometimes disappointing results at the start of the season.
“I am really grateful to the team for continuing to support me and carry me every weekend” Hamilton explained.
Ferrari rewarded for its efforts
This second place also represents an important reward for Ferrari, which seemed to be struggling in recent weeks against Mercedes and McLaren.
Hamilton also emphasizes the work done in Maranello to get back to the forefront.
“It’s a great feeling to see the team so happy, because they really deserve it with all the work done” the Briton concluded.
This result could now serve as a real trigger for Hamilton and Ferrari before the rest of the 2026 F1 season.
