Aston Martin facing a harsh reality:

In great difficulty since the beginning of the season, Aston Martin is going through a complicated period in F1. Mike Krack acknowledges that frustration is growing internally, even though the team is trying to stay on course.

The start of the 2026 F1 season feels like a real ordeal for Aston Martin. After several years spent regularly fighting at the front, the British team is now experiencing a worrying regression, unable to compete with the leading teams.

In Miami, both cars finally finished together for the first time this season, a small reason for satisfaction after several difficult weekends. Honda notably managed to improve the reliability of its power unit, a recurring weak point since the start of the campaign.

But despite this progress, the performance remains largely insufficient. Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll are now running at the back of the pack, far from the points and without any real ability to join the midfield battles.

The assessment is harsh for a structure that recently still aimed to get closer to the best teams in the championship.

Mike Krack talks about inevitable frustration

Faced with this delicate situation, Mike Krack does not hide that the atmosphere within the team is affected. The Aston Martin director admits that the current difficulties inevitably generate a lot of frustration, even if everyone tries to remain clear-headed.

“We are competitors and we obviously do not want to be at the back of the grid,” he explains. “Every year, the goal is to progress. But you also have to accept reality when problems arise.”

Krack insists, however, that there is no point in sinking into pessimism. According to him, recognizing difficulties is essential to move forward, even if disappointment remains human in such a demanding environment as Formula 1.

“There is no point in letting frustration take over, but it is normal that it exists in such a situation.”

The difficulties do not concern just one area. Aston Martin has to deal with several simultaneous weaknesses, both in terms of chassis and engine, which further complicates the engineers’ work.

Alonso and Stroll praised for their attitude

In this complicated context, Mike Krack wanted to highlight the professionalism of his two drivers. Fernando Alonso, two-time world champion, and Lance Stroll continue to show commitment despite results far from their expectations.

The Luxembourger recalls that drivers are the first exposed when performance does not follow, especially facing the media and external criticism.

“The drivers are the ones who suffer most directly from this situation,” says Krack. “Fernando and Lance are experienced drivers and they know their natural place is not at the back of the grid.”

Despite this, the two men would continue to work constructively with the team to try to turn the situation around in the coming weeks.

A project already looking to the future?

While Aston Martin officially continues to look for solutions to improve its current car, many observers already believe the team is mainly looking towards 2027 and the arrival of new regulations.

The team founded by Lawrence Stroll is betting heavily on its strengthened partnership with Honda as well as on the arrival of Adrian Newey to return to the top in the medium term.

Meanwhile, Aston Martin will have to go through a season that promises to be long and frustrating, with the primary goal of limiting the damage before hoping for a real renewal.
