The Williams team is continuing its deep transformation. Under the leadership of its director James Vowles, the British team has just announced the arrival of Claire Simpson, an experienced engineer coming directly from Mercedes.

After more than ten years spent within the Brackley-based team, Simpson held a key role as group leader in aerodynamics. She now joins Williams as head of aerodynamic development, a strategic position in the quest for performance.

Her arrival, effective from the Miami Grand Prix weekend, marks a new step in the technical rebuilding of the Grove team.

A clear recruitment strategy

This transfer is not an isolated case. Williams has recently attracted another major profile from Mercedes: Dan Milner.

Former R&D manager at the multiple world champions, he now holds the position of chief engineer in charge of vehicle technologies. An arrival that, according to Vowles, has already had an immediate impact.

“Dan’s impact has been very quick and very significant. We have already launched many projects based on his experience, and it has even led us to review certain technical directions.”

A statement that clearly illustrates Williams’ desire to rely on experienced profiles to change scale.

Strengthened technical collaboration

In her new role, Claire Simpson will work closely with aerodynamic head Juan Molina. The goal is clear: to significantly improve the overall performance of the car in the medium term.

James Vowles did not hide his enthusiasm about these successive recruitments: “We have more arrivals planned in the coming months. These are very high-level profiles.”

This gradual strengthening of the technical teams fits into a global vision aimed at repositioning Williams among the competitive teams on the grid.

Williams embraces its ambition

With these moves, Williams sends a strong message to its rivals. The team no longer just wants to survive at the back of the grid: it wants to become a reference again.

“There is no resistance to change if it allows us to aim for excellence” insists Vowles.

A philosophy that already seems to be bearing fruit internally, with a technical structure in full evolution and a clear direction towards higher performance standards.

Now the challenge is to translate these human investments into concrete results on track. But one thing is certain: Williams is clearly accelerating its rebuild.
