The Grand Prix held at the Miami International Autodrome was marked by an impressive incident involving Pierre Gasly and Liam Lawson.
In the circuit’s hairpin, Lawson’s car suddenly lost control, causing a violent contact with Gasly. The Frenchman’s car then lifted off before rolling over, in a spectacular scene but fortunately without physical consequences.
Gasly frustrated despite a good start to the race
Despite the severity of the accident, Gasly emerged unscathed. The Alpine driver mainly regrets a missed opportunity, as he had made a good recovery at the start of the race.
“I’m just disappointed for the whole team, we know there are big points to be gained today and it’s not pleasant,” he explains, visibly frustrated.
Without wanting to dwell too much on the circumstances of the incident, he confirms his overall disappointment. “I’m not going to comment further but I’m definitely very disappointed,” he adds.
He also reflects on the most striking moment of his accident. “I found myself like that, it had never happened to me in Formula 1, it was impressive. I didn’t know where I was going to end up,” the Frenchman confides.
Lawson victim of a sudden failure
On his side, Liam Lawson quickly explained the origin of the problem. It was not a driving error, but a sudden mechanical failure at the moment of braking.

“It’s bad for both of us. Coming into the last corner, when I braked, I lost the gearbox and found myself in neutral, so I couldn’t brake,” he explains.
A totally unpredictable situation, which immediately led to the impact with Gasly. The driver also specifies that he had never experienced such a failure before.
A double frustration despite a good pace
Before their retirement, both drivers had shown good potential in the race. Lawson had gained several positions, while Gasly seemed capable of scoring interesting points.
“I had a good start, I had good balance, so it’s frustrating,” summarizes Lawson, aware of the missed opportunity.
Beyond the impressive spectacle, this incident deprives both drivers of a potential result in a race already marked by many twists and turns.
While Gasly walks away uninjured, frustration dominates, while Lawson mainly retains the disappointment of a retirement caused by an uncontrollable technical problem.
