Red Bull backed against the wall: Jolyon Palmer decides,

Red Bull Racing is experiencing a nightmarish start to the 2026 Formula 1 season. But for Jolyon Palmer, the awakening is inevitable.

The Red Bull Racing team is going through an unusually difficult period at the start of the 2026 F1 season. After three races, the team is only sixth in the F1 Constructors’ Championship, tied with Alpine and behind a surprising Haas F1 Team.

An F1 ranking that sharply contrasts with the recent standards of the Austrian team, long established at the top of Formula 1. Between performance issues and lack of consistency, Red Bull is struggling to find the right formula with its new car.

A break that could change everything

The situation could, however, evolve quickly thanks to an unexpected element: the long break imposed at the start of the season after the cancellation of several Grands Prix. This break gave teams valuable time to analyze data and fix their weaknesses.

For Jolyon Palmer, this is precisely where Red Bull’s strength lies. Despite recent departures within the organization, the team retains considerable technical and human resources capable of shifting the hierarchy in the medium term.

“With the resources Red Bull has, it’s not a good idea to give them a month to analyze all the data, work on the car, and bring new parts. I know they’ve lost quite a few people recently, but they still have huge internal capacity. It feels like this will eventually make the difference against Haas and Alpine” Palmer states.

Haas and Alpine under pressure

Meanwhile, Haas and Alpine have taken advantage of Red Bull’s difficulties to temporarily move ahead. The American team, in particular, impresses with its efficiency and ability to maximize its opportunities on track.

But the question remains: can these teams hold up over the long term? While Alpine is betting on a strategy of gradual developments, with improvements expected notably in Miami, the challenge looks immense against a structure as powerful as Red Bull.

For Palmer, the scenario is almost written in advance. Once the problems are identified and fixed, Red Bull should logically regain a performance level far superior to what has been shown so far.

“Alpine announced at the start of the year that they would bring major upgrades at regular intervals, especially in Miami. They are playing the long game. Maybe they can keep fighting with Red Bull for now, but it really feels like as soon as Red Bull understands how to exploit their car, they will have a much faster base than what they’ve shown so far” he concludes.

The message is clear: Red Bull is struggling… but certainly not out of the race.
