Antonio Pérez Garibay has moved from a professional life in the automotive industry and entrepreneurship to an active political career.

After unsuccessful local candidacies (2015, 2018), he became a federal deputy for Morena in 2021, with declared ambitions for higher executive positions at the state and even national levels.

Presidential candidate

Pérez Garibay shared his political ambitions on Instagram, highlighting his commitment to the country. Speaking to the media, he declared with passion: “Today we have the most powerful and most loved president in the world @claudia_shein. Thanks to @elsiglodetorreon, but from now on my commitment goes to @gobmexico and @segob_mx @rosaicelarodriguez_ — God’s timing is perfect — 2030. ”

Pérez Sr compared his presidential dream to his former ambition for his son to become an F1 driver. He expressed his determination to take unconventional paths: “Yes, it’s my dream. My dream is that one day I will be president of Mexico, just as one day my dream was for my son to become a Formula 1 driver. When I say that I want to be president of Mexico, people tell me that I am crazy. Well, I like being crazy, I like doing things that others don’t do. I am one of those people who do what others don’t dare to do.”

Father-son divergence

Sergio Pérez has clearly condemned certain comments that his father made last year, notably when Antonio made remarks deemed homophobic toward former driver and consultant Ralf Schumacher. Sergio stated that he did not agree with these comments, that he thought his father had made a mistake and that he did not share any of his views on these remarks.

In another older interview, Pérez explained that he is a very reserved and private person, while his father is rather the opposite — much more energetic and expressive. This comparison shows that he recognizes a clear difference in their personalities, without necessarily criticizing his father in personal terms.
